Abstract: | Since the achievement of independence, economic co-operation among the African states has offered the inly practical means for buildings more viable national economies. The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), the Lake Chad Bassin Commision (LCBS), and the Central African Customs and Economic Union (UDEAC) are such economic groupings which have been formed with a view to ensuring that trade liberation between the member States will enhance their economic growth and that of the region as a whole. However, the multimembership of some States in these groupings does have potential far reaching economic implications for the member States and for the collectivities as a whole.
