| Abstract: | While the author was the administrative officer in charge of the Bamenda Division of the British Cameroons from 1936 to 1945, the Nigerian Government granted asylum to Musa, a son of the late sultan Njoya of Fumban, and hence a claimant to the Bamum throne. Njoya, exiled by the French to Yaunde, died there in 1933. Musa, accompanied by Mfopu, one of Njoya's private secretaries, Njifonfon, a court official, and two other scribes, settled near the Bafut. Central Court. Translating Njoya's manuscript on the history, laws and customs of the Bamum, the author needed a genealogy of the Bamum kings and queens. With the help of Musa, Mfopu, Njifonfon and others, the author was able to compile a genealogical table. This table gives the names of 19 Bamum monarchs who have ruled in Fumban. Reference is made to a genealogical table of the Bamum kings and queens in the palace museum at Fumban. Notes, table. |
