Abstract: | Central aim of this essay is to examine the language about women with a view to demonstrating what is considered to be authentic womenhood in a matrilineal society and whether that is equivalent to full personhood as may be experienced by the female. Therefore the author examines some aspects of the culture which have given birth too folktales and proverbs in order to elicit the realistic situation of women in Asante. Finally some model-building is done on what the author considers to be a possible relationship between men and women as they seek together to evolve an authentic and whole humanity. In so doing the author hopes to be able to indicate the relevance of the modern feminist movement for communitybuilding in Africa. Notes. |
