Abstract: | Based in part on a Ph. D. thesis submitted to the University of Manchester in December, 1965; is divided into four parts: In 1. 'The lessons of Adolf Wagner and of modern empirical analyses' hypotheses in the explanation of public expenditure growth are presented and examined for their relevance - 2. 'The statistics and history of Western Nigerian public expenditure' reviews, empirically, the body of statistical data on Western Nigerian public expenditures - 3. 'Activating forces in Western Nigeria' offers an interpretation of the forces underlying public expenditure growth in Western Nigeria so far - 4.
