Abstract:In view of the introduction of the Universal Primary Education (UPE) Scheme by the Nigerian Government in 1976, it is incumbent on educators to re-examine the functions of the private nursery/primary schools within the Nigerian educational system and structure. This article reviews the functions of, and the situation in, these schools which in the last two years have been mushrooming all over different parts of the country for several reasons.
