| Abstract: | The Survey of Language Use and Language Teaching in Eastern Africa has been completed in one respect although the Zambian team is still in the field. The Survey office has closed and the Survey Council has dissolved itself. While a considerable amount has been written about various aspects of the Survey in different countries in Eastern Africa, it seemed appropriate that at this juncture a fuller account of the inception and development of the undertaking should be given for the record. Professor Clifford Prator, Field Director of the Survey from July 1967 to October 1968, writes about inception and initial activities 1967-68 p. 1/7. J. Donald Bowen, Field Director from September 1968 to August 1970, presents The Language Survey 1968-70 p. 8-12. Sirarpi Ohannessian describes the Survey of Language Use and Language Teaching in Zambia p. 13-14. |
