Abstract:One of the reasons for introducing the multiple-choice technique of testing to the School Certificate Examinations of West African Examinations Council in West Africa is its objectivity of scoring, and consequently the possibility of higher reliabilities than the traditional essay tests are capable of: reliability of tests being the consistency or the dependableness of the test in measuring whatever it measures. This is considered an essential quality of a test like the School Certificate, which provides the scores on which important decisions are based in West Africa. It is also considered a property of the School Certificate Examination tests on which information must be made available from time to time. This report is an attempt to provide the information concerning the reliability coefficients of all the 1969 SCE multiple-choice tests. Ref., table.
