Abstract:On March 17, 1979, as part of the London Conference of the Association for the Teaching of Caribbean and African Literature (ATCAL), a panel discussion on approaches to the teaching of African and Caribbean literature in the schools took place in which the participants were Diana Bailey, John Hardcastle, Charles Mungo, Farrukh Dhondy, and Alastair Niven (moderator). Panel members were all teachers with active experience of the kind of school and teaching issues discussed, as well as the broader political implications of teaching African and Caribbean literature in British classrooms.
