| Abstract: | Reconstructs the local history of the Akamba between 1780 and 1820 in order to understand better the significance of interregional human porterage in East African early history. The local trade developments are examined in the following sections: the Nzama - magic and persuasion: the instrument of initial Akamba leadership - dependences for Motui unification (regional marriages, 1795-1810 - rearrangements in the distribution of wealth - sub-level leadership created).
