Abstract: | An eye-witness accound of the ceremony which is purposed to bring back a deceased married man's spirit from his grave to his home and his relatives, about a year after his burial. The ceremony's character gives evidence of the close bonds which exist between the living and the dead in Shona family life. In particular it proves the significance of brotherhood, which is expressed in the main part played by the eldest surviving brother of the deceased, at the performance of the ceremony.
