Abstract:Raises an important question as regards the Bantu idea of ancestors: Do the ancestors occupy God's place? Or, are the ancestors venerated or worshipped in Bantu or African understanding? The ancestors play an important role in Bantu life and even in the religion of most African tribes. They are, therefore, kept in memory and deserve reverence and homage. From the material gathered appears that the ancestors are not worshipped but venerated; this veneration is not limited to the Bantu alone but is found in non-Bantu tribes too. Notes, French summary.
