Abstract:To hasten the modernization process of agriculture in Tanzania it was decided to take farmers themselves to school. Hence the institution of Farmers' Training Centres. The work of these centres is geared to practical needs. In the Three Year Plan period that preceded the Five Year Plan £ 190,000 was set aside for the construction of 8 centres. The Five Year Plan includes provisions for 18 centres at £ 21,000 a centre. Total allocation: £ 378,000. The work of F.T. Centres is closely integrated with that of the field extension services. The Ministery of Agriculture controls the F.T. Centres in close cooperation with the Ministry of Community Development and National Culture. Each F.T. Centre takes in 24 to 30 students. Each centre is situated on a farm ranging in size from 28 to 230 acres.
