Abstract: | It has become more and more fashionable in recent years among some non-Negro observers to assume that the influence of the philosophy of Negritude has passed its time. The assumption is made that the type of literature which was inspired by the philosophy of Negritude has disappeared from the contemporary scene because its usefulness ceased at the attainment of independence by African States. Suggested is that Negritude is a false and artificial movement. Such misconceptions are a direct result of regarding Negritude as being solely a literary movement. Purpose of the present article is to spell out the salient principles of Negritude and to restate the meaning of the concept. Notes. |
