Abstract:This paper assesses the impact of rural water provision on population distribution in the Sudan with the aim of delimiting areas of adequate, deficit or surplus water supplies so as to direct future planning and action to these areas. It also analyses the impact of declared policies of water provision on rural population distribution and attempts to get an idea of the degree and magnitude of the problem of water shortages and problems hindering the achievement of the government goals. The general policies are discussed and the relationship of population distribution and water supply sources are assessed with particular reference to the supply/demand situation. Bibliogr.
