Abstract:This study illustrates the use of census material in conjunction with other lines of investigation. The author has chosen his examples from geologically varied portions of Central Sudan in an attempt to determine to what extent the distribution of population by age and sex is related to cultural factors, and to what extent to the possibility of providing a balanced diet from local resources.
