Abstract:The presence of many Arabic/Malay words in Afrikaans is testimony to the influence of the Muslims on that language. In the first part of this paper the author gives many examples of this influence. In the second part he deals with a more important contribution by the Muslims to Afrikander culture: the production of literature in the Afrikaans language. Notes, tab.
