Abstract: | Revolutionary change in Egypt after the war had percussive effects on the social, economic and political life of her neighbours. Although the economies of the three states grew at different rates during this period, their social effects were similar. A. Further common political experience of the three countries was the nature of their relations with the great powers. Finally, the Palestinian problem, and the repeated wars between the Arab states and Israel left a profound, if not devastating, mark on the region. The conflict also contributed to the politicisation of the population of all three countries, and brought to power, or facilitated the emergence of, new social and political elements. Bibliographical essay (p. 877-879), bibliogr. (p. 940-943), maps, notes. |
