Abstract: | The Peace Corps has become a vital force in African education, particularly secondary education. It has encouraged an expanding of African school systems, challenged the habit of rote learning, and dampened elitism in the schools. The article describes the various aspects, possibilities, and difficulties of teaching by Peace Corps Volunteers in Africa. Illustration by a chart indicating the numbers of Peace Corps volunteers in general and of teachers in particular in the various countries in Africa. |
