| Abstract: | The author gives a historical survey of the development of education in Uganda and shows the circumstances which caused the Mohammedans of Uganda to remain an unprogressive and educationally backward community. In 1958 Dr. Sergeant found that the Mohammedan community was so backward, economically and educationally, that it needed special help. A conference in 1959 at Dar es Salaam considered the problem, but no action was taken. The Uganda Department of Education Annual fieport of 1957 pointed to the 'regretably low standard of Mohammedan education'. Christians have continued to dominate political scene. Notes. |
