Abstract:The purpose and scope of administrative training during the pre-independence period between 1954 and 1960 and the post-independence period since October, 1960, have been entirely different. In connection with Nigeria's first national development plan after independence administrators were to become increasingly involved in the development effort rather than be principally concerned with the maintenance of law and order. In July, 1965, an institute of Administration at a post-graduate and at a professional level was formally established. Administrative training is further examined in the article in the following parts: Pre-independence administrative training, 1954-1960; Training problems in post-independence period, 1960-1968; Developing the curriculum for administrative training; Evaluating the administrative training programme; Future development of administrative training; Conclusions.
