Abstract: | Witchcraft, an abhorred crime, cannot be tried by judicial process as it is due to unseen forces, Mana. The Mteu Ordeal among the Mashona tribes consists in using as a test of guilty of something which is thought to be filled with Mana. It is quite infallible, and is a certain means of discovering whether a person is, consciously or inconsciously, working against the well-being of Society. This article gives a description of the Mteu Ordeal as it obtains amongst the Wakorekore. |
