Abstract: | This small highland Bantu tribe occupies the most southerly portion of the cool fertile western section of the Kenya Highlands. Their traditions hold, strongly, that in the distant past they were the same people as the Kuria, Logoli, Bukusu, Suba, Kikuyu, Meru, Embu and Kamba. The author discusses their environment, origin and early migrations into West Kenya, the Gusii in West Kenya and Kano, the occupation of Gusii highlands, Gusii country in the 19th century, and their political organization.
