Abstract:This article attempts a restatement of a portion of the land law. This subject-matter is governed by Ghanaian statutes and caselaw, and based on different principles from the English systems of registration. The main system of registration was instituted by the Registration Ordinance, 1883, which was re-enacted with some changes in the Land Registrry Ordinance, 1895, Cap. 133. It was replaced by the Land Registry Act, 1962. Most of its Parts were brought into force in 1962; some sections were brought into force in 1965, and a small portion is still not in force. These enactments are treated together in the first two sections of this article (1. The process of registration - 2. The effects of registration). The last section examines the provisions for the registration of dealings in land in Kumasi Town, which has been regulated by special legislation (3. Kumasi Town Lands). Notes; ref.
