| Abstract: | Land today in Uganda is subject to unwritten customary law and common lav, as veil as to a lot of statutory laws 'both locally enacted, and received laws such as the statutes of general application. In 1969 the Public Lands Act, 1969, was passed by the Parliament, which i.a. vested all the land known as Crown lands up to the date of Uganda's Independence, into a Public Lands Commission. This act, while it may be welcomed as an attempt in Public Land control, has great room for improvement. It is not sufficiently attractive to persuade Africans in Uganda to forcefully contribute to national development to achieve economic independence. The Public Lands Act and its problems are discussed in the essay. Notes. |
