Abstract:European racialism in Kenya was strengthened and maintained by the economic and political problems which the Europeans faced. The main problem contributing to a fairly vicious expression of racialism against Asians and Africans was the fact that up to 1939 the vast majority of the settlers were comparatively poor and existed in a higly insecure situation. After 1940 the Mau Mau revolt was one factor contributing to the formation of racial attitudes.
