Abstract: | Hardly any at leapt has ever been Bade to study the form of Yoruba proverbs and to try and show what features of their language make them so striking as a literary form. The features of from which are particularly important in the study of Yoruba proverb are grammatical, lexical, and, to some extent, dialectical. Instances are given of the four in sentence patterns 1. simple, 2. complex 3. sequential 4. parallel sentences. Lexical fea - tures are the most distinguishing features of proverbs in Yoruba Instances are given of three type of lexical features: 1. repetition, 2. contrast, 3. word play. Instances are given of dialectical features. |
