Abstract: | In this paper the author is concerned with accomplishing two things: first an ethnographic description of several cosmological beliefs of the Sisala (Tumu District of Northern Ghana), and second, answering the question 'How does the belief in the journey of the soul influence etiology?' The article shows that the belief in a volatile soul is necessarily fundamental to the understanding of ancestral affliction, divination and sacrifice, and further, that this volatility is symbolized by the creation, existence and disposal of the nadima bracelet.
