Abstract: | Whereas textbook sampling designs (judgement sampling, probability or random sampling, including areal sampling) may be incompatible in the context of African rural environment, their theoretical foundations form the basis on which several adaptive sampling procedures compatible with the African rural environment can be developed. Radial sampling, developed by the author in the Kenyan rural context, is a case in point. The assumptions, the mechanics and the empirical performance of radial sampling strategy vis-à-vis areal-administrative sampling are described. Notes, ref. |
