Abstract: | The warrior tradition was not born on the day the white man landed in Africa. On the contrary, it was deeply inter-linked with the totality of the cultures of most African societies before the white man came. In this article the author first explores more fully the key elements of the warrior tradition, then follows with Shaka as a symbol of the warrior tradition in Africa prior to the large-scale colonisation and next proceeds to General Idi Amin as the symbol of the beginning of the new warrior tradition.
