Abstract: | Purpose of this paper is to identify and to show that the results obtained so far from the Six-Year Primary Project provide adequate answers to the many problems relating to the use of indigenous African Languages within a bilingual primary education programme generally in the continent but particularly within the Yoruba-speaking States of the Federation of Nigeria. The results and their application to primary education in Africa and specifically the Universal Primary Education scheme of the Federation of Nigeria can be seen in the eight different areas of curriculum materials, instructional materials, medium of instruction, the teaching of English, teacher education, remedial teaching for slow learners, the value of primary education obtainable and general policy on language in education.
