Abstract: | Aim of the article is to show what still remains of African pedagogy in East African countries or what has disappeared (and replaced by the Western educational system). Sections: the foundation of African traditional systems of education - stages of education. As stages of education the author discerns the first phase of childhood (0-2 years) and the second phase (2-7 years (which stage corresponds also to the time when the African boy must be economically useful). The most important stage in traditional education is the initiation (the author describes circumcision rites i.a. among the Kamba). Conclusion: the permanency of traditional methods of education is a fact to reckon with in present-day Africa. |
