Abstract: | The Ledätä Abäw, or the monastic genealogy of Dabra Libanos, which is edited here, was summarized from the existing gädlat, or acts of saints, and more specifically from the gadi of Abuna Takia Haymanot, the founder of the monastery of Asbo (later Däbrä Libanos) or Shoan monasticism, and the gädl of Abunä Fileppos, the third abbot of the monastery after Täklä Haymanot and Elsa. The text edited here is taken from the Ethiopian Manuscript Microfilm Library, (Addis Ababa/Collegeville, Minnesota), and includes the EMML manuscripts 2136, 1760, 3012 and 233. After the introduction follows the Ledätä Abäw text (EMML 2136) with the variants of EMML 1760, 3012 and 233 shown in the footnotes. The last part of this study contains the translation of the monastic genealogy. Bibliogr., notes. |
