Abstract: | Two case studies in the areas of agriculture and public health are described in some detail in order to demonstrate something of the methodology developed in Mali for training newly literate village people in the technical tasks of rural development and simultaneously involving a significant part of the population in participatory research about the same problem. The work was carried out from 1976 to 1978 by a research team from the Malian Ministry of Education, composed of staff from the Ministry's Division of Functional Literacy and Applied Linguistics. The author served as coordinator and technical assistant. |
