Abstract: | This paper gives a comprehensive report on the Asmara Awqaf institution; the main and most important Awqaf institution in northern Ethiopia. It includes a description of the objectives, organizational structure, functions and the financial contribution annually made for the educational and social needs of Asmara Muslims by the Awqaf institution. First the author gives a short topographic and demographic outline of Eritrea, the northern region of Ethiopia, briefly notes the economic status of Muslims and makes a brief historical survey of the advent of Islam in Ethiopia.
