Abstract: | In Ilesa, a Yoruba city in western Nigeria, female intermediaries are engaged in the wholesaling and retailing of both agricultural and manufactured goods. This paper is concerned with the economic roles of these female middlemen operating out of the central marketplace in Ilesa. It considers the ways in which traders use the money they earn, and the ways in which their trade activities are organized. Ref., notes, table. |
