Abstract: | Starting from the principle that there are no essential differences in the level of inherited intelligences between racial groups, environmental factors must be held responsible for the underdevelopment of potential abilities of African pupils. In this context the author mentions undernutrition, which to the opinion of some specialists may cause a permanent damage to brain development of visual and auditory abilities, inability to concentrate, and a paucity of words. Remedial actions should be directed to an improvement of the efficiency of pre-school projects in order to protect the poorly prepared pupils from initial school failures. Priority should be given to the attainment of a minimal nutritional standard and the development of skills in language usage. Ref. |
