Abstract:The market for fixed interest securities in South Africa is an important sector of the investment scene, but one which has attracted little attention. This is in contrast to the market for ordinary shares which are quoted on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange. The purpose of this paper is to explain the nature of the secondary market in gilts and semi-gilts, its present deficiencies, and recent developments which have affected it. Notes.
