Abstract:Contains an account of the background, the motives and the course of the Yunguru resistance in Adamawa, Yola Province, in northeastern Nigeria in 1914 and of the British 'punitive expedition' against the Yunguru which happened as a consequence of their resistance. The paper is based upon unpublished primary Danish archival material. Conclusion: African resistance was partly determined by political and administrative factors, but contained besides important ethnic and religious aspects. Notes.
