Abstract: | With the aim of discovering those traditional methods of healing that appear useful, the vagrant psychotic healers in the city of Enugu, Nigeria, were observed by way of participation in their daily activities. The healers forced their clients to social dependency, fed them very well and walked about the town with them in an orderly manner until they were physically exhausted. Prayers were said in the morning and evening before and after the day's walk. Finally the vagrant psychotic healers manifested extreme self certainty and autocratic and directive methods of healing. It is suggested that the above methods should be examined to find their efficacy in our African society. Ref., sum. in French. |
