Abstract:In this information age, there is a need to possess information processing skills to ensure access to the right information at the right time and place. Lack of this skill has resulted in information illiteracy and incompetence, as observed among Ghanaian university students. After defining the terms 'information', 'information literacy' and 'information competence', the author outlines the root causes of the absence of information seeking skills among university students in Ghana and suggests possible solutions to the problem. In particular, information skills should be incorporated into the school curriculum. Librarians and library educators have a critical role to play in fostering information literacy. Bibliogr., note.
