| Abstract: | Purpose is to analyse the structure of the Rhodesian political economy with a view to assessing the likelihood of a neo-colonial 'solution' to the problem of decolonisation. Key constraints on the structural transformation of the economy and society are identified. The similarities and differences between the Rhodesian and Kenyan economies at the time of independence are explored in an attempt to evaluate the conventional assumption that Kenya represents the most likely model for the post-colonial evolution of Zimbabwe. Sections: Introductory - The claim of comparability - The neo-colonial model: the case of Kenya - Prospects of neo-colonialism: the case of Zimbabwe - Conclusions. Notes, tables. |
