Abstract:The new law of marriage and its dissolution was published in 2 books attached to the official Bulletin of Morocco of 6-12-1957, to be brought into force from 1-1-1958. This legislation represents the first codification of Islamic law in Morocco, which takes full account of all the demands of modern life, while still preserving the essentials of the religion of Islam. The profound reform in the family system and in the status of women, which its provisions reflected, would constitute a guarantee of social advance. This article contains an extensive analysis of this new legislation.
