Language:English
Geographic term:Italian Somaliland
Subject:Bantu-speaking peoples
Abstract:Note on a Bantu group, divided into ten or eleven tribelets and largely cut up into small riverine pockets, under heavy Somali influence of varying character and intensity. This group, as andentity ethnically and culturally distinct from the dominant Somali may well be in grave danger from the moment the italian administration withdraws from Somaliland per ultimo 1960. Apart from odd bits of superficial information there is virtually nothing known of these two types of Somaliland Bantu, notably information on social structure is lacking. An. exception to this from the Bajun (Grottanelli 1955; Prins 1960). Map. Bibliography.
