Abstract:The significance of recent evidence of climatic variation during the past 100.000 years is related to the results of field research in Libya, which in the cave of Haua Fteah (800 km east of Tripoli) proved a local climatic succession extending virtually unbroken from the middle of the Eemian up to the present. In the conclusion findings in Libya and the important data revealed by the most recent investigations in the Nile valley and the easternmost sector of the Sahara are briefly compared and a possible synthesis is discussed.
