Abstract:Comparison of the structure of two stories: one a recent literary work from the Ivory Coast, 'The Black Loincloth' by Bernard Dadie, and one a Kongo folktale, 'The Son of Nzambi Mpungu', of the early twentieth century. The stories presume similar cosmologies, and their symbolic contents lend themselves in large measure to a common and consistent interpretation derived from Kongo culture. Notes.
