| Abstract: | The Tanzanian Study Team for the Survey of Language Use and Language Teaching in Eastern Africa started its work in 1969. The main body of data shall be collected through questionnaires aimed at different groups of the population. More limited investigations into the use of language in more specific social contexts are also planned: language use in religious life, in courts, in the market, etc. The Survey team also proposes to collect information about the languages of Tanzania, including a bibliography and a list of scholars who are working or who have worked on these languages. In addition, a collation of statements on 'good' Swahili, and a prize for the best essay on 'Our Language' (in Swahili) is envisaged. |
