Abstract: | In this paper the author considers southern problems and prospects for national integration from the perspectives of three fundamental issues: the dialectics of identification as a basis for the shaping and sharing of power and other values, the cultural factors which influenced Arabization in the North and resistance in the South; and the dynamics of re-identification, alignment and realignment which have contributed to the present settlement. The sections are: contrasting patterns in the North and the South - traditional and modern resistance to change - openings toward new solutions - towards national integration. |
