Abstract:The attitude of the British Protestant Missionaries towards the Malagasy peoples was not free of cultural ethnocentrism. According to them, the Malagasy were brutal, superstitious, greedy and immoral. These views led to the practice of racial exclusiveness. The first reaction against the missions took place in 1893, and from this date forward independent churches flourished. Notes.
