Abstract:The survey on which this paper is based took place during the 1972-73 session. The sample consists of 195 main campus (Samaru) Ahmadu Bello University female students. From about half the main campus female student population completed questionnaires were obtained. First, the paper sketches briefly the social background of the female students at the university. Second, it presents the view of the students (three quarters of whom are from the Northern states) on the factors involved in the expansion of girls' education in the areas from which they come. Third, it presents the views of the students on the situation of educated women in Nigeria. Finally, particular attention is paid to the way in which background and opinions are linked to the religious affiliation, Christian and Muslim, of the respondents. Notes, tables.
