Abstract: | This contribution to the literature on African aesthetic a seeks to demonstrate that among the Igbo of south-eastern Nigeria exist critical and cultural standards for aesthetic judgments. Aspects of Iqbo art are examined and analysed. While this study is exploratory, it is hoped that some of the observations made on Iqbo aesthetics will shed some light generally on aspects of African aesthetics and lead to the much needed comparative studies in African aesthetics and aesthetic systems.
